Masking
What is masking?
Similar to clipping, masking is used to select certain objects in an image to allow for an easier editing process.
Masking is a tool found in editing softwares such as Photoshop that make it possible to easily edit and alter the selected area without harming the original image.
The masking tool is generally used for more intricate images such as those with fur, hair or fringe in order to capture the subtlest of details. The process is most effective when the image is temporarily given a monochrome filter in the editing software.
Masking is very beneficial for editing high volumes of photos because of its precision and time efficiency.
Example: Masking is generally used in post-production of modeling photography when it becomes necessary to capture the subject’s hair.
