In digital image processing it sometimes becomes necessary to separate certain objects or parts of the image from others. This may be the case if you only need a specific object in the picture in order to place it in a different context, or if you want to remove unwanted objects from the image in order to improve the composition.
In order to do that, one has to make a selection by creating a clipping path. There are basically two different ways to create a clipping path. One is based on raster graphics making the selection pixel by pixel, the other one is vector based using a Bézier curve. Most digital image editors offer both. Nowadays an increasing number of professionals working with manipulated images tend to clipping path outsourcing using clipping path services.

Most image editors offer a magic wand tool that can make a selection quite comfortably just by clicking on the desired object. What all these tools lack, though, is precision. No matter how fine you adjust it, the magic wand will never detect the exact borderline between the object you want to keep and the one you want to remove. If you zoom in deep enough you will see the pixels that the image is made out of. In order to make a clean, precise selection you will have to draw a line by selecting the outermost pixels of the object. Depending on the size of the picture these can be quite a few.
Using the lasso tool to make a selection works fine as long as you have clean borders and straight lines. But as soon as you want to select rounded objects you will find out that this method does not work so well. And even if you make the selection by marking each pixel it will never be perfectly round. This problem can be eliminated if you use the vector based Bézier tool to make your selection. Using the Bézier tool you can always adjust the angle in which you want the curve to bend, resulting in almost perfectly rounded curves.
Once you have made your selection using either method, your clipping path is complete. You can now cut out the desired object and, for example, place it in front of a different background.
While creating clean and professional clipping paths is crucial in digital image processing, it is also very time consuming. That is why many professional photographers use clipping path services that are specialized in removing backgrounds or unwanted objects from digital images. Clipping path outsourcing can support a photographer or advertising company and lead to a better workflow.
